Local Nine-Year Old and Key Financial, Inc. Team Together to Pay It Forward

WEST CHESTER, PA (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – On Wednesday August 7th, Patti Brennan, President and CEO of Key Financial, Inc. of West Chester, PA surprised a local nine-year old camper at the YMCA of Greater Brandywine. Owen Jones noticed that a fellow YMCA camper’s family was going through a tough time and could not afford lunch, so he asked his Mom if they could bring lunch to his friend every day. She agreed and his singular act of kindness has now created a movement that has inspired others. In honor of his tenth birthday in September, Owen and the YMCA of Greater Brandywine have invited others to join in his kindness and generosity by donating just $10 (#10 for 10) to the YMCA of Greater Brandywine. The funds raised are helping other kids in Chester County access YMCA programs, such as summer camp.

Brennan is active in her community, but more importantly is a mother of four, who was so moved by the kindness of one small child that she offered to match whatever had been collected. To Owen’s surprise – he inspired a collection of $2,160 to which Brennan added another $2,160. After a livestream video presentation on Facebook showing Patti and Owen talking about what he was hoping to accomplish for his friend, the collection surpassed $5,000 in just hours.

“This young man has a huge heart and the sincerity of a singular act has gone viral in the best possible way!” exclaimed Brennan. “Wouldn’t it be great if everyone saw opportunities to help those in need, the way Owen does? What a great community and country we live in, where our young with small voices can inspire those of us with louder voices to help those in need! Everyone at Key Financial is so happy to help in any way we can to follow the example of this exceptional young boy!”

West Chester Advisor Inspiring Today’s Youth

WEST CHESTER, PA, (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Recently, Key Financial hosted their second CEO for a Day event, where two local 7thgraders were given the opportunity to shadow President and CEO Patti Brennan for a day. The event was created and spearheaded by Brennan last fall after involving herself in the Believe and Achieve program at the YMCA of Greater Brandywine. It was at this event, that Brennan first discussed with young minds the best ways to learn and her philosophy of leading through example. As a mother of four, Brennan can attest to the profound impact that role models can have on young adults.

Like any real CEO, the girl’s day was packed with various activities, such as signing letters and delegating tasks to employees – and even offering some vacation days to a lucky employee! “We wanted to make this experience for the girls was as hands on as possible”, said Patti Brennan, “and it turned out to be a smashing success for everyone who was involved. Morale skyrockets when employees see these 12 year old future stars all dressed up, taking the reins as if they really were CEO. Our goal is to plant a seed when these kids are young, that if they make the right choices, they too can be CEO one day.”

The impact was well received for the girls. “The experience was life changing for Julia and Janiyah,” said YMCA Director of Branch Operations Steffani Witmer. “Both girls came back so inspired and excited about their future opportunities. We are so grateful to Key Financial for hosting this experience, and hope that other companies will join in on this initiative.” Since September, the CEO for the Day initiative has spread, including four separate companies who have decided to join in and host their own CEO for the Days. Key Financial plans to host one more CEO for the Day in July for two more lucky YMCA campers.
